ART PARTNERS
A.R.T. and THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO
A 6-session residency introduces students to one of the worldÕs great museums. Five in-school sessions involve hands-on activities with preparation for the culminating field trip to the Art Institute. The A.R.T. Artist accompanies students as they explore the Faces, Places and Inner Spaces exhibit. After the tour, students work in the studio at the Art Institute to respond to what theyÕve experienced in the collection. Participating classroom teachers receive a comprehensive manual on the exhibit, including suggested activities and transparencies.

AMERICAN ART PARTNERS
A.R.T. and THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO
This 6-session residency focuses attention on the collection in the Art InstituteÕs spacious new American Rice Wing. Five in-school sessions involve students in making their own works of art while they prepare for the culminating field trip. Accompanied by their A.R.T. Artist, students tour the American Rice Wing led by Art Institute docents. The day also gives students the chance to make their own American art in the Art Institute studio after they are inspired by the great works they have seen. Participating classroom teachers receive a complete curriculum guide for the program, including ideas for lesson plans and beautiful transparencies depicting works in the collection.

ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS OF THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST
A.R.T.; CROW CANYON ARCHAEOLOGICAL CENTER IN CORTEZ, CO; FIELD MUSEUM
The lives of ancient American ancestors become real as students examine the art and archaeology of Native Americans from the Southwest. This partnership with the Crow Canyon Center (located near Mesa Verde National Park in the southwest corner of Colorado) provides 6 sessions in the classroom led by A.R.T. Artists who have trained at Crow Canyon plus a guided excursion to the Field Museum. The teaching kit used by A.R.T. Artists includes artifacts from the site. Activities include pottery-making, creating colorful pigments from natural sources and learning what happens on an archaeological dig.

16-SESSION RESIDENCIES
A.R.T.Õs 16-session residency program combines teacher professional development on arts integration with visual arts education for students. In lively curriculum planning meetings, classroom teachers and A.R.T. Artists are able to carefully tailor the residency sessions to meet the teachersÕ specific learning goals for their classrooms. Artists spend 15 sessions in the classroom conducting a combination of slide-lecture discussions and hands-on activities. The sixteenth session is a field trip related to the chosen topic for the residency.

A.R.T. ALIVE
A.R.T. Alive uses new technology to introduce students to great art in an interactive environment. A.R.T. Alive computer software presents a detailed look at visual images and provides information on the artists and the work viewed. Three of the six Alive sessions utilize the Alive technology. Art-making activities illuminate the concepts introduced by the images viewed.

When the Alive technology is used, it is essential that all of the A.R.T. ArtistÕs classes that day be held in one classroom or other suitable space as the equipment takes some time to set up.

The A.R.T. Artist will present these works of art in several sessions using a software program designed to encourage active student participation through features that enable them to zoom into areas of a painting, isolate compositional elements such as lines or shapes, and make comparisons of two or more artworks while viewing them simultaneously. Additional sessions will be devoted to a hands-on project that will provide students with additional opportunities for self-expression and for exploring the key concepts presented in the residency.
