Art from Around the World
Folktales and myths from around the world bring cultures alive for students. By reading and discussing stories from cultures as diverse as German, Mayan and African American, students become aware of both the differences and similarities between cultures. The stories are interpreted through art activities that may include artifacts, story quilts, and painting projects.

Digital Photography After School
Dive into photography and see its new place in the digital age! Students will learn how to compose a shot, when to use the flash, and learn the differences between the cameraÕs Auto and Manual modes. In addition, students will share ideas and explore different approaches to photography Ð from fine art shots, to snap shots destined for the family photo album. But taking good pictures is just the beginning. Students will then learn how to crop images and format them for sharing via email or on a website. Note: Digital photography may be an option only if your school has at least five working digital cameras, support equipment (computer lab, photo printers, etc.) and additional monies for supplies (such as photo paper and ink). An evaluation of your equipment will be required before beginning a digital photography program.

Maskmaking After School
Students learn the traditions of African and Native American maskmaking, as they study the symbols and meanings of different types of masks from several African and Native American cultures. They create elaborate masks based on symbols in their own lives and then use these masks as subjects for stories and poetry.

Murals and Mosaics After School
Beautify your school with a lasting student-created work of art. Guided by an experienced A.R.T. muralist or mosaic artist, students plan and create a permanent mural or mosaic for their school. The students select and research a theme for the mural or mosaic that must be approved by their principal. They also learn how to develop a sketch based on that theme and how to enlarge and transfer the sketch to the wall. The students then learn how to work with the selected media, paint or mosaic tiles, to create a unique source of school pride for years to come.

Photography After School
Photography can become a profession or a lifelong hobby. In this program students learn specialized techniques and how to use photographic materials. Their photographs become the inspiration for visual and written narratives about themselves, their families and their communities. Program recommended for students in fourth grade and above.

Young Artists Adventures After School
Budding artists explore a variety of art materials and experiment with various media in this hands-on program. This is a great way to launch a lifelong interest in self-expression through art.
