William Estrada
Staff Artist
since 2005

William Estrada earned a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and holds a Special 10 K-12 Certification from the State of Illinois. William has worked with grass-roots organizations since 1998 and continues to participate in various community projects in the Chicago land area. His work stems from the vision that art represents the complexities of personal stories, the simplicity of spaces, and the on-going struggle to make sense of urban life, its subcultures, and in reflection the mainstream. Estrada's work addresses this vision by re-introducing images, words, and general beliefs to the public through art in order to critically re-examine the meanings of these themes. As a teacher, artist, and urban anthropologist he studies, documents, reflects, and presents experiences that you find in academic books, school halls, city streets, television sets, teacher lounges, progressive families, barrios, college campuses, and in the conversations of close friends.
